When We Knew We Needed Leveling Blocks

Let’s title this “Learning the hard way what accessories you need for your camper van”. A few days after purchasing our van, we proudly pulled up to our campground. We were so excited we forgot that campground parking pads are notoriously sloped in one way or another. We quickly realized we needed to raise the rear of the van, but didn’t have anything to do it with.

We searched around for tree bark to create our own leveling blocks. It worked, but having a set of blocks makes the job much easier. We did get a fun picture of big stacks of bark under the tires to remember the experience.

The first thing I did when we returned from our maiden voyage was to order these leveling ramps from Amazon. As with all products you have good and bad reviews. After evaluating what people had to say about this product, I decided to give it a try. After all, there were a lot of happy customers giving it 4 or 5 stars.

Using the Leveling Blocks

On our next trip I was actually hoping for a chance to use them. I wasn’t let down, the parking pad definitely had a slope. I checked the level indicator in the van, pulled the ramps out from behind the driver’s seat and placed them in front of the front wheels. I slowly drove the van up to the highest level of the ramps and we were perfectly level. Success!

Since then we have used them multiple times on the front and rear of the van and they are holding up great. There have been a couple of times where I wish I had a bit more elevation than these allow, but it hasn’t really been an issue for us. We have solved this problem by purchasing a foldable set of traction GoTreads that we use for extra elevation.

Our Conclusion

Overall we feel this is a great product and would purchase it again. They tuck nicely behind the drivers seat too.

Below are some of the things we like about this product.

  • The ramps have gradual height increments which makes it easy to find your right height.
  • They are durable and rated to hold 11,000 lbs per axel.
  • They provide almost 4″ of lift.
  • The raised non slip surface provides additional tire traction.
  • They have a one year limited warranty.
