We were camping down the road a few miles and came across this location while riding our bikes. We decided to stop in and check it out. The host was very nice and let us take a look around. Here is our mixed review.
Half Moon Bay and the entire coastal area form Pacifica to Santa Cruz has amazing beaches and coastal views. Half Moon Bay has a great small town feel with lots of shops and places to eat. It is also home to the world famous Mavericks surf competition. You can hike or bike there from this RV park.
There are many hiking and biking trails up and down highway 1. Many of them are within walking distance from the RV park. Let’s touch a bit on this location specifically though.
There is no doubt that this is an amazing location to stop for a day or two on your way to another location, but we feel like it probably won’t be what most of our class B followers are looking for. It’s expensive, it’s right on the highway and there are no trees or dirt.
While some of you might think this is the perfect place to stay on your California coastal adventure, others might use this review to cross it off their list and avoid being disappointed when you arrive. We hope our short review is helpful in your planning.
Campsite Reviews By Bike
There is no doubt this is prime real-estate right on the water, but it does have a few things I have noted below that make it less than perfect.
Here are some things we noticed about the sites. The sites are very level. The park is very clean and well maintained. All of the spaces face the ocean so you can’t park your van sideways for a view out your slider.
We are used to camping in the woods, so having the whole place be asphalt reminded us of our trip to Chowchilla in the central valley. It’s a nice place right on the ocean, but if the price is too steep, we suggest rolling over to the this free boondocking spot up the road a few miles. This is where we stay when we need a coastal night away.
Pros and Cons
- PROS – Amazing sunsets, a great beach to the left and a beautiful harbor in front of you, very clean, sites are level, walking and biking trail, great dining options
- CONS – Price!!!, its all asphalt, spots are close together, road noise, did I mention price? Wow this place is expensive.
