Grestle Cove Campsite Northern California

Gerstle Cove Campground: Jenner California

A GORGEOUS COASTSIDE CAMPGROUND

When we left home, we had no reservation. We were headed to a 100 site campground in Jenner California. We thought it would be easy to find a vacant campsite. Boy, were we wrong. That place was booked solid, so we got back in the van and headed north.

We drove another 30 minutes and pulled into another campground. Unfortunately, they had no space, but she directed us to drive another 100 yards and check with another campground, Grestle Cove. The ranger said he had one site left. When luck is on your side, you pay the ranger and say, “Thank you very much”!

We drove around looking for our site. The campground was beautiful. Campsites were nicely spaced with plenty of trees, but not overly shaded. The parking pad did require some leveling. This was before we purchased leveling blocks, so we made do with stacks of tree bark haha.

Once we got settled, we took a walk down to the ocean. This would be a very different ocean experience than Mottole Campground in the coming months. There is a nice trail that leads to a gravel road. If you go right on the gravel road, it takes you to a beautiful cove (see image above). There is a day use area there too with plenty of parking, picnic tables and a vault toilet. It is a beautiful rocky coastline with plenty of areas to hike and explore. Next stop, Pacifica State Beach.
