Granite Flat Campground: 3 Miles South Of Truckee California

A GREAT RIVER ACCESS CAMPGROUND

By the end of this blog post, I hope to have given you enough information to decide if this campground’s pros outweigh the cons. As we know, whats right for one camper might not be another’s ideal setting. Let’s see what we can uncover at Granite Flats Campground.

The campground is situated right on the Truckee River which gives it a high rating in my book. After the previous night’s stay at White Cloud Campground, it was nice to be near water. All of the campsites are less than a minute walk to the water. The river was pretty shallow in this area when we visited, but after big rains and snow melt it can be quite swift and deep.

The Campsites

The campsites are quite level and I did not have to use any leveling blocks for the van. I was surprised to find out there are over 70 campsites in this long and narrow campground. This many campsites in such a long narrow campground means you don’t have a lot of space between you and your neighbors.

A Bit Of Traffic Noise

Unfortunately the campground is also right ion Highway 89 which is quite busy. When I was at the river, the sound of cars was fairly muffled, but back at the campsite there was a constant buzz of cars going by. Since we were in our insulated van at night, the car noise did not interfere with our ability to sleep.

So the choice is yours, but if you want a quieter location that is still near water, I would suggest looking at the campgrounds inside Donner Memorial Park.
