A BEAUTIFUL LAKESIDE CAMPGROUND
After a couple of nights at less than ideal campsites, we finally landed on a gem! The Fallen Leaf Campground is far from busy roads, has access to bike trails and sits right between Fallen Leaf Lake and Lake Tahoe. It’s nestled among towering native pine, cedar, fir and aspen trees. With 206 campsites that include six yurts and both tent and RV accommodations, you would think everybody would be jam packed right next to each other, but no!
Walking The Campground
Our site was super level, had a nice picnic table, bear box and fire pit. We went for a walk around the entire campground and were amazed at how spread out it was. We counted four different camp host trailers to give you an idea of the size. Some sites are definitely better than others, but most seemed pretty top notch. It’s a short walk to Fallen Leaf Lake from most sites.
The image above was taken as we walked out to the lake. There is a very large clearing with nicely positions logs for sitting as you enjoy the lake and surrounding mountains. The surrounding mountain peaks include Cathedral Peak (8,200 feet) and Mount Tallac (9,735 feet).
The water was brisk, but swimming is allowed. While we were floating around in our raft, we noticed quite a few people on paddle boards and a couple of ski boats pulling skiers behind them. This is a very popular campsite so I would suggest booking early. We will definitely be back!
