QUICK AND EASY ACCESS TO BEAUTIFUL CASPAR BEACH
Driving Highway 1 To Caspar
Driving Highway 1 in either direction is one of the most beautiful coastal drives you can take. Coming from the north puts your passenger right on the edge of the road. The views are just spectacular, but if you are driving, keep your eyes on the road. There are plenty of places to stop so you can both safely take in the views. It will take you longer to get here than if you took highway 101, but it’s worth the extra time it takes to get to your destination.
Arriving At Caspar
Keep your eyes open for the signs to Caspar as it is quite a small town. Once you roll in, it’s just a short drive to the campground. When you drive in you will need to check in and get a car pass at the general store. This store is very well stocked with anything you might need.
The Campground
We got a pass from the general store and drove around the campground . It’s a small campground nestled between the hills and away from any noise and wind that might be blowing. The first thing we notices was how close the campsites are. You can see in the photo how close the picnic tables are. You will definitely get to know your neighbors.
The sites appear to be pretty level and are surrounded by trees and bushes on the perimeter. You will not get much direct shade though. With the hills on all sides you will probably be shaded in the morning and afternoon, depending on the time of year. The campground is an oval with one road in and out.
Easy Beach Access
From the campground we couldn’t hear the ocean, but we could walk there in less than 5 minutes. The beach was beautiful. It is in a large cove with a very large, flat beach area. This is definitely one of the biggest perks of this campground.
The waves at Caspar Beach are much calmer than what we had seen around the Pinewood Campground area. Most of the Mendocino coastline is very rocky with huge waves crashing against them. This is a picture perfect beach to spend the day at. If you ever find yourself further north, the Mottole Primative Campground in Petrolia California has amazing sunsets and is very peaceful.
The one drawback to the Caspar campground, from our perspective, is how expensive it is. We are used to camping at state campgrounds with no hookups for $10 to $35 a day. Most California state run campgrounds also allow two cars and up to 8 people for no additional charge. Just things to consider.

Things To Be Aware Of

Conclusion
The Caspar Beach Campground has a lot to offer, that’s for sure. While we love the calm ocean beach and all the activities in the vicinity, this is not our preferred type of camping. With that said, if you have kids or just want a great beach campground with lots of amenities, this very well may be a perfect spot for you. If you decide to visit, let us know how you liked it.
