Boise Creek Campground: Willow Creek California

A SMALL, BEAUTIFUL CAMPGROUND

The Journey To Get Here

When a suggestion from a friend about an amazing campsite almost gets you stuck in a remote area with no cell service, you quickly pivot and get the heck out of there.

So, it’s now 4pm and you have nowhere to camp. Now what? Well, I quickly tried to search local campgrounds in the area with my spotty cell service. There was a rest area that had the option of staying there for 8 hours, but that didn’t seem much like the camping experience I was looking for. After finding a couple of full sites and a closed day use area, I stumbled upon Boise Creek Campground.

Relief and Excitement

As I pulled in, I saw what appeared to be an open site. Could it be? Was this really available? Low and behold it was! I was set for the night. The campground is quite small and right off the fairly busy road. The setting is cozy and filled with gorgeous full trees. The entire area is well shaded which worked in my favor on this very warm evening. The camp host was super friendly and inviting.

Walking The Campground

The sites are fairly close together and the vehicle pads do require some leveling of your van (see photo). There is one thing I wish this site had and one I wished it didn’t have. I do prefer campsites that are fairly close to water, whether than be a lake, ocean or river. You can walk down a trail from site number 10 to a nice, but small swimming hole. The one thing I wish it didn’t have was road noise. The noise definitely detracts from the whole Out In Nature feeling I look for when camping. We found that site #8 was best for avoiding much of the road noise and it offered a nice big picnic table area that is even further from the road. This was very similar to Granite Flat Campground
