Big Sur Campground And Cabins, Big Sur California

Beautiful Big Sur RIVERFRONT CAMPGROUND

Exploring Campgrounds On Our Bikes

We were staying at the Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park Campground for the weekend and thought we would get out on our bikes and explore some other campgrounds in the area. We headed south just a quarter of a mile and came across three other campgrounds. These campgrounds are privately owned and are all located on the west side of highway 1.

One of the campgrounds was Big Sur Campgrounds and Cabins. This is a very nice, privately owned Big Sur riverfront campground. The people who greeted us as we rode up to the office were very nice. They welcomed us to take a look around. They gave us a map and off we went.

Lots Of Cabins Around The Campsites

They have quite a mixture of campsites and various styles of cabins with different accommodations. As we rode around we definitely preferred the campsites near the river and away from the cabins. Being next to a cabin just didn’t give us that “camping feeling”.

The dirt roads around the campground were very well maintained and we did not see any sign of litter or garbage. Being there in December, we couldn’t get a feel of how shaded and warm it would be in the summer. It does offer a lot of shade so if you are relying on solar power to recharge your batteries, you might ask which site gets the most sun.

Types Of Campsites

  • 26 RV campsites with electricity and water.

Local Things To See And Do

        • Preiffer Beach is 3/4 mile south and then down a 2 mile road, but no access for bikes, pedestrians or RV’s of any type unfortunately. We learned that the hard way after riding our bikes out there and being sent back.

        • Pfeiffer State Park offers a day use area and many hiking trails for all abilities. We suggest the Valley View or Pfeiffer Falls hike.

        • 1/4 mile north is the tiny town of Big Sur which has a few nice restaurants. We had a great lunch at the Big Sur River Inn. In the summer they put chairs in the river and bring your food to you.

      Cell Service

          • ATT – 1 bar.
          • Verizon – 1 bar
          • There is no WiFi anywhere inside the campground. If you need WiFi just head down to the Big Sur library. They are closed Sunday through Tuesday, but you can access their free WiFi from outside the building with no password.
