Best Van Roof Fan Interior Cover

VanEssential’s Insulated Roof Vent Sun Cover For MaxxAir and Fantastic Fan 16.5” x 16.5” flanges

The Need For A Fan Cover

One of the first sounds I noticed in our van as we drove away from the dealer and onto the freeway, was the sound of wind coming from the MaxxAir roof fan. I mean it didn’t sound like it would if it was open, but it just bothered me.  Any noise I can get rid of while I’m driving just makes the experience that much more enjoyable. So how did I fix it?

Additional Uses

I purchased the VanEssential insulated interior fan cover.  I later learned that its main use is for heat retention and to prevent the sun from shining in. I’m not sure how many people bought it for the same reason I did, but I can attest it does a great job at all of those tasks.

What’s It Made Of?

For the insulation nerds like me, it’s made of 5mm double foiled aluminum PE insulation which reflects up to 98% of radiant heat. As a planet saving bonus it’s made from 100% recycled PET plastic bottle fabric.

Installation

It is held in place using powerful N48 Neodymium magnets which does require you to remove the plastic flange to install.  Installation should take around 30 minutes. My installation took 45 because the plastic flange was glued to the wood ceiling framing by the thick black vent sealant.

If you run into this problem just apply firm but gentle downward pressure until the adhesive releases from the plastic flange.  Once the flange is off, you will need some blue painters tape to tape the magnets down.  It’s a pretty easy project overall and the installation directions are very well written and illustrated.

When To Use It

I put the cover on when my van is parked to avoid interior sun bleaching and additional heat buildup, whenever I drive to cut down on wind noise, before I go to sleep if I want to sleep in and not have the sun light up the van in the morning and if it’s cold outside for extra insulation.

*If your manual open/close knob hangs below the flange, this cover will not work.
