Why This Step?

After having our class B camper van for a couple of months, we realized we were getting in and out through the back doors quite a bit. The high step in and out was not as easy as getting in the side door. First we bought a folding step, but it was something extra to store and did not offer great stability on rougher or uneven ground. 

Pros

After looking at many of the hitch steps, we landed on this one for a few reasons. 

• • The metal construction seemed like a longer lasting option than plastic. 

• • The powder coated alloy metal wouldn’t rust. 

• • The rough non slip surface and fish mouth holes would shed dirt from our shoes prior to getting in the van. 

• • The step width 5.9” and length 11.22”  offered a stable and sizable platform. 

• The price was very reasonable. 

Cons

• While the step can be a bit rough on bare feet, it does a great job of keeping dirt out of the van. If you want the step to be a bit lower you can buy an adaptor from another company designed to lower a towing hitch.
• Like many products, it does not fit as snuggly as I would like in the hitch.  To solve this issue I took some 2” electrical tape and wrapped it twice.  Now it fits perfectly. Issue solved!

Our Conclusion

We couldn’t be happier with this sturdy dirt shedding step. We love its substantial size and how much easier it is to get in and out of the back of our van. We highly recommend this rear hitch step.
